How to pick fragrance notes for Essential oils ?

'Notes' is a term used in perfumery to describe the category a scent falls into, based on its scent and staying power. Essential oil was perfume for centuries before the invention of artificial fragrance so they are assigned notes that describe where they fall on the perfumer's scale. Our body is a symphony orchestra that is a composition of many instruments playing their part in creating a beautiful harmonious melody. All natural living organisms carry a song / vibrational notes. All matter is compressed energy that vibrates. We can help our body to heal better if we empower ourselves with the knowledge of how these oils, herbs and fruits can benefit our body by alleviating stress from pollutants and radiation stress that we go through every day.

Your first impression of a fragrance will often be dependent upon the blend’s top note. This aroma springs out above the other notes when you take your first whiff. They tend to be fresh and uplifting, often citrus-type aromas that are highly volatile. They evaporate the quickest but leave a lasting characteristic on the blend as a whole. Top notes, like peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus typically evaporate within an hour or two.

These aromas help give body and fullness to a blend. A middle note will not evaporate as quickly as a top note (taking anywhere from one to four hours). Middle notes, like rosemary, geranium, and chamomile, often aromatically evaporate within two to four hours.

Middle note / heart notes

Base note is the slowest to evaporate and sometimes isn’t even discernable for the first few hours as the top and middle notes take center stage. Usually intense and heady aromas, base notes have a relaxing characteristic that is common of “heavier” essential oils. And heavier base notes, like myrrh, cedarwood, and ginger can be detected by olfaction for five or more hours and may even linger for days.
